Valentine's Day...

...is over rated.

what with everything hiked up by 200%; flowers, chocolates, teddybears, eateries etc. A marketing gimmick one may say. It gives the ladies expectation and poor guys have to happily (or not) oblige to it, or else, they will find themselve ignored. And for singletons, lovey dovey couples will be such an eye sore. Trouble is they are everywhere. It's impossibly inevitable. Unless you lock yourself in the room. But even then, you won't be one hundred percent void of all these if you're on Facebook. It's like a virtual dating phenomenon out there. Status updates and wall postings; suddenly public display of affection is cool.

Having said these, I'd like to say

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY TO YOU & ME

because it all goes down to the celebration of Love. And I don't have a problem with Love. I love Love. And I'm reminded today that instead of focusing on the commercial value of Love, it's more of its intrinsic value that we should focus on. And love exist in everyone, everywhere and anytime. Just like God. God is Love. So, it doesn't matter whether one is single, in a relationship, married or as Facebook puts it 'it's complicated', love is there when you allow yourself to it. It has always been, always will.

Disclaimer: Melissa is not usually cynical about Valentine's Day. Given the circumstances, she would love to receive flowers, chocolates and teddy bears. But it doesn't have to be on Fourteenth of February. It could be on any of the three hundred and sixty five days. Just saying.
